Lab Note #043: CRDT Conflict-Free State Replication Across Edge Nodes

Empirical evaluation of Yjs and Automerge Conflict-Free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) over ephemeral WebSocket mesh connections.

Objective & Experimental Setup

Collaborative applications (whiteboards, code editors, document editing) require immediate local updates with eventual consistency across edge nodes. We simulated 100 concurrent clients generating 50 keystrokes/sec connected across 3 simulated cloud regions (US-East, EU-Central, AP-East).

Lab Verification

The state achieved deterministic, mathematically guaranteed convergence without requiring a centralized master lock or database coordination transaction.
